Lions International District 306 C2 with the coordination of Lion Binara Jayawardena distributed essential items among the needy recently.
School books, vegetables and dry rations, wheel-chairs, school uniforms, spectacles and plants were distributed among the needy in the program assisted by the Kottawa Sports Organisation.
“As part of the program, 1,000 school bags, 1,000 school uniforms, 25 wheel-chairs, 2,000 spectacles and 500 bags of dry rations were distributed. Bank accounts were opened for the needy children and sil cloth were distributed. We had a dental clinic and a blood donation campaign. Our main aim was to help the needy," Lion Jayawardena said. 
He said a diabetic clinic and a medical clinic was held with the help of doctors to assist those who cannot afford to pay for their medical needs. “Valuable plants were given to children who have garden space. We gave these plants to make them aware of the importance of growing plants. While helping the needy and the sick, we are educating the younger generation to be responsible citizens,” Lion Jayawardena said.
A dansala was held to provide people with a meal. A bicycle race was the entertainment for the day. Eighty eight well-known sportsmen took part in the bicycle race.
