The Little Witch-Dog is about a puppy that was bought by a wicked witch named Pernickety to guard her cottage from the goblins, trolls and dwarfs who came to steal her spells. The witch gave the puppy the ugly name of Snooks and he had a miserable life. Snooks was afraid of the goblins, trolls and dwarfs because they shouted that they would make him into a dog-biscuit and throw him to the birds. Pernickety Witch was angry with Snooks because he could not guard her cottage and she beat him and threatened to turn him into a ball and throw him up to the moon which is a terrible place, and poor Snooks was very frightened and miserable.
Now one day, the wicked witch tells Snooks that she is expecting a pixie called Tiptoes and that Snooks has to catch the pixie because she wants to keep her as a servant. Snooks was very sad because he loved the pixies and elves as they were kind to him. Snooks decides not to help the wicked witch and barks at the pixie so that she would run away from the witch’s cottage and tells her that the witch is waiting to catch her and turn her into her servant. Finally, the puppy is rewarded for his help by the kind pixie who provides him with a happy home.
