My favourite book is Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. It was first published as a book by Richard Bentley in 1839. The main characters are Oliver Twist, Mr. Bumble, Fagin, Artful Dodger, Bill Sikes, Nancy and Mr. Brownlow. In this story, the poor boy Oliver is sent to a cruel place called a workhouse, which was an institute where people living in poverty were given food in return for unpaid work. The people in the workhouse treat Oliver very cruelly. I like this book because it made me experience the life of a poor, small boy and taught me the importance of helping the poor.
