The Hostel, opened for students in 1956, in a house named ‘Rotunda’ in Kollupitiya, is today, a home away from home for 170 students, mostly rural, following professional courses in universities and educational institutions, in Colombo.
The 45 year old building is in urgent need of renovation and refurbishment to provide a good standard of living for the students, young women and those who make use of the building. The building, which was designed by renowned Architect Geoffrey Bawa, is of great architectural and historical value, thereby enhancing the need for its refurbishment and maintenance to preserve its architectural design and historical significance.
Ravi Algama, Attorney at Law, and Priyadarshani Algma were Chief Guests at the event. The Auditorium was almost filled to capacity as the play began, and resonated with the sound of laughter throughout the performance. Wilson Gunaratne and his team did a splendid job in replicating the past and the current political scenario of the country, in the context of real life and factual occurrences, shedding light on the political predicament of Sri Lanka.
