The Buddha

29 April, 2018

Born with all the luxury
Man of great vision
Experience gathered in previous births
Made him to become a perfect man.
The doctrine He found
Made man to think
How life should be led
Without any hinderence to others.
The great sacrifice He made
In search of eternal truth
Hadn't been made by another prophet
Who introduced a philosophy of life
To this world of flux and hollow.
Prince from the Sakya clan
The heir to the throne of Kapilawasthu
Leaving all His worldly pleasures
Left the palace in search of holy truth
Never to come back again.
Food was nothing to him
Cladding an amber cloth
Led the life of an ascetic
Until He found the profound truth
On a day of Vesak long-ago.
Born with power and pelf of a king
Came - down to the state of a street pauper
With a begging-bowl in hand
Stepping from house to house
In search of a morsel of food.
No matter either an ignoble's door step
Or a noble's door-step
Continued His normal-pace
Enlightening the truth He explored
For the benefit of all.
Eliminating the entire cause of evil
Born on an auspicious day of Vesak
And winning the Enlightenment
On the day of Vesak
And passing away this mighty figure
Too, occurred on the day of Vesak.
