Minister of Education, Akila Viraj Kariyawasm participated at the National function for Grade One admissions at Isipathana College, Colombo recently. Speaking at the event, he said, “Necessary changes will be brought about within the education system of the country with some trials and research concerning international trends and future employment opportunities. Children who enter Grade One in 2018 will leave school in 2030 after completing 13 years of education. By that time, higher education opportunities and employment opportunities created for them will be considerably changed.”
The Minister said that English textbooks for Grade One and Two have been introduced for improving English education of children in primary grades and specially for improving the basic skills of English language of children in rural schools.
He emphasized that a special responsibility lies with primary education teachers with regard to imparting education correctly. The Minister also extended his best wishes to the 340, 000 students who entered Grade One this year.
