Sri Lanka has a famous tree called the jak tree. It is a large, tall tree. It has a lot of small leaves. Sinhala Buddhists cut a branch of the jak tree at an auspicious time on Sinhalese New Year. Jak wood is used to make doors, rafters and houses. Jak wood has a good demand and is expensive. Jak fruits are very nutritious. My father planted a Jak tree on the day I was born. It has now grown large and tall and bears lots of jak fruit. We must protect the jak tree for our country and our people.
