Independence Day of Sri Lanka is celebrated on February 4, every year. It is celebrated to mark our freedom from British rule in 1948. It is a national holiday. On National Day, the President hoists the National Flag and addresses the nation. It is celebrated all over the country. The people hoist the national flags in schools, homes, work places and on vehicles. People sing the national anthem on this day as a national observance. We can see military parades on this day. The military marks the occasion with a twenty one gun salute on this day.
