Recently Sri Lanka experienced severe floods. This is mainly due to heavy rainfall of about 500 mm in Kandy, Kalu, Walawe and Nilwala rivers which overflowed and the low land areas were flooded.
Rathnapura, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle, Matara and Hambantota districts were badly affected by these severe floods. About 60,0000 people were displaced and about 200 people died and nearly 200 people went missing.
In addition to that many landslides were reported in affected areas. Some houses were completely damaged. Many roads and other infrastructures were also damaged.
This was a severe calamity in Sri Lanka. I could see all Sri Lankans get together to help the displaced people and distribute good among them. I also offered some items at my school. I hope the affected people will be able to return to their normal lives soon.
