There are many religious festivals in Sri Lanka. Poson is one of them. It is an important religious festival which is celebrated by Buddhists in the month of June. Poson is also celebrated to honour the arrival of Mahinda Thera in Sri Lanka. We observe Sil on this day and listen to sermons and other religious speeches. We also illuminate our houses with coloured bulbs and pandals are erected in public places. We go on pilgrimages to sacred places. Special religious programmes are conducted by Buddhist associations. Poson festival is a very colourful festival. Let us live happily in peace and harmony on this important day and forever.
