Minister of Education, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has launched a special program to improve English knowledge among school children.
Accordingly Minister Akila Viraj has instructed the National Institute of Education (NIE) and the English and Foreign languages branch of the Education Ministry to introduce a special English textbook for Grade Two and Three students.
English Language which is considered a link language is an essential qualification that has to be acquired in the march towards a knowledge based economy.
As another step, the Minister has instructed the education officers to draw a special program to develop the language teaching skills of English teachers and to prepare special textbooks for other grades as well.
