Novice Rahula was the most disciplined chief priest of the Buddhist Order. How could he become such? Because, he was well mannered and well-disciplined and had appealing qualities. Every morning, he used to take a handful of sand and threw it up and wish “May I receive much advice from the elders as much as I could get to my hands”.
One day the Buddha advised novice Rahula to keep the three main doors clean. He kept his three doors clean throughout his life. He never thought of anything, if any harm was going to be caused by his thoughts. He never did anything, if any harm was going to be caused by his actions. He never uttered anything, if any harm was going to be caused by his utterances.
Therefore, we should always keep our three main doors clean. That is what we can learn from the character, novice Rahula.
