The biggest ever nationwide kids’ physical activity programme, the inaugural National Kids Athletics Competition conducted by the Education Ministry with the generous sponsorship of the Nestle Lanka PLC turned out to be a resounding success as nearly 4000 Grade Three and Grade Four students gathered at Maris Stella College grounds (Grade Three contests on March 25) and Ratnapura Public grounds (grade four contests on March 30) to test their physical abilities. It has been a fun filled two memorable days to kids where they competed in team contests that are based on day-to-day life activities such as walking, running, spinning and throwing.
The programme was architectured on ‘Four F’ concept, Fun, Fitness, Fundamental and Friendship with the aim to inculcate sporting spirit, teamwork and healthy lifestyle among youngsters.
This programme will also serve as the basis to identify distinct sports talent of individuals, so these kids will be directed in the relevant sports discipline with a systematic mechanism in order to produce future national and international level sports stars.
