Reading is fun

29 January, 2017

There is a saying, 'Reading maketh a full man.' Reading is a good habit that will make us wise. The National Literacy month is celebrated in December. Literary festivals are organised islandwide during this month. It is good to visit libraries and book exhibitions too. Reading is very important for students. It helps to improve our language and vocabulary. We gain knowledge about the world around us. There are many kinds of books such as novels, short stories, fairy tales and adventure stories. Reading helps us to relax and it is good for our health.

I have read books on comics, novels and general knowledge. I have learnt about nature, inventions and space. I enjoy reading fiction. Different characters and imaginary places are amazing. James and the Giant Peach, Madol Duwa and Amba Yahaluwo are some of my favourite books. I like to read them again and again. Reading is an everlasting pastime. The type of books we select depends on our attitude and personality.

I find a quiet place at home to read, where I find a comfortable chair and curl up without any disturbance. I borrow books from the school library. I also visit book exhibitions and bookshops to add books to my collection. I set a fixed time everyday to read because reading is fun.
