The rice tree

We call the jak tree the rice tree. A jak tree can be found in almost every home garden. It is a big tree. The leaves are small and dark green in colour. Jak is an important food to Sri Lankans because it is very nutritious. Properly boiled jak and scraped coconut is a tasty meal. Very young jak fruit is called polos. It is a very delicious curry and the polos mallun is tasty too. Therefore the jak tree is very important to Sri Lankans.
