
S. Mahinda Thera was born in 1901 in Gangtok in Sikkim, India. His original name was Pempa Tendupi Serky Cherin. When he was eleven-years-old he received a scholarship, and arrived in Sri Lanka in 1912 or 1914. When he arrived he became very angry because people didn't care about Sri Lanka. So, to make people protect Sri Lanka he wrote many books to awaken them. Most of these books have poems. He wrote many books such as Jathika Thotilla, Nidhahase Manthraya and Lanka Matha. We still have these books today. He was also known as a poet. He passed away on 16th March 1951.
