Sri Lanka’s women’s team playing in the Billie Jean King Cup tennis tournament in Malaysia beat Guam in their final appearance 2-0 and avoided a demotion to group III.
Earlier, they beat Turkmenistan 2-1 to register their only win in the group stage on Friday.
Sri Lanka won their two singles matches against Guam and the doubles game was not played as the position was already decided.
In the two singles matches Janali Manamperi and Saajida Razick won their matches to help Sri Lanka remain in group II for another year.
However, Sri Lanka failed to impress in their group stage matches losing all but one. They lost to Malaysia 0-3, Mongolia 0-3, New Zealand 0-3 and Indonesia 0-3. Sri Lanka was in pool B with New Zealand, Mongolia, Indonesia, Thurkmenistan and Malaysia.
