“We have to ensure an athlete of this calibre goes forward. She has good talent and came through a lot of difficulties. We have to encourage her,” said Jayawardena.

Susantha Fernando her coach was also felicitated at the ceremony.

“We really appreciate Susantha Fernando’s work in playing his part for the success of Tharushi,” said Jayawardena. Tharushi’s focus is now on the Asian Games in China in September and according to her coach Susantha Fernando she will now be able to use the Digana ground free of charge for training.

“Tharushi is well focused and re-started her training. We had to pay to use the Digana ground as well as the gymnasium.

“From last week we are able to use the facility free of charge and that is good for Tharushi at a difficult period,” said Fernando.
