Seven teams contest MCA cricket for NDB trophy

Seven teams are vying for honours at the third MCA ‘C’ division 50 overs League Tournament 2023 that is played with white ball and coloured clothing.

National Development Bank has come forward to sponsor this tournament for the NDB Trophy.

The teams vying for honours are David Pieris Group ‘A’, Nawaloka Hospitals, Hemas Holdings, Commercial Bank ‘A’, Airport and Aviation Services, DFCC Bank and LOLC Holdings.

The League stage of the tournament, played on a round robin basis in a single group will have 21 matches and got underway on June 24 to conclude on July 30.

The venues are MCA, De Soysa Park/Moratuwa, BRC, Army/Mattegoda, Army/Panagoda, Bloomfield, De Mazenod/Kandana, BOI/Katunayake and DS Senanayake.

Special Awards will be made for the best batsman, best bowler, Man of the Series and Man of the Final.

At the completion of the league, the four top teams emerging from the points table will advance to the semi-finals that will be played on a knock-out basis.

The final will take place on August 12, at the MCA ground, commencing at 10 a.m.

Speaking on the occasion Sanjaya Perera, Senior Vice President, Personal Banking and Customer Experience of NDB said that as Sri Lanka is gradually emerging from the many hardships it is important that the field of sports is extended the support it requires. By tying up with the MCA for this occasion, NDB said it was pleased to take a lead role in this regard.

“Sports inculcate discipline, build character and foster comradeship. Whether you win or lose, in any sporting activity, people are molded to play as a team, to respect rules and encourage team unity and sportsmanship,” added Perera.
