Sixteen leading football playing schools in the country have been invited to participate in the Zahira Super 16 soccer Sevens championship to be held on September 9 at the Race Course international stadium.
This will also be the 17th consecutive year that the Past Prefects Association (PPA) of Zahira College is organizing it.
In the past too this prestigious tournament has given the opportunity to the young players to showcase their talent, skills and abilities in the game on a large scale.
Zahira College holds a reputation for producing players of a high standard who have gone on to represent the national team. This has been their forte and will always look forward to continue to do so in the future too.
Principal of Zahira College Trizwie Marikar said that he wishes to see that the event is conducted successfully.
“Zahira is dedicated to developing the standard of football throughout this country. It is commonly known as the most popular game throughout the world and this is why we are giving it prominence,” said Marikar.
He also thanked the PPA for organizing such sporting events in the past too and paid a tribute to main sponsor Nolimit for supporting almost every event organized by Zahira all these years. The 16 teams will be divided into four groups and played on a league basis from 7 am onwards. The top four teams from each group will play for the Cup while the Plate, Bowl and Shield will also be presented.
There will also be an under-12 event called the 8-a-side tournament with eight teams taking part. This too is bound to attract interest among spectators that is expected to turn up in large numbers.
