New teams on board contesting MCA cricket

16 July, 2023

A company that has produced national cricketers Stafford Motor Company will continue to sponsor the MCA G division 25-overs League tournament for the 12th successive year and the winning team will be awarded the Honda Trophy.

Four new teams have joined the fray and a total of 45 teams will contest in eight groups played in two stages. The four new teams are Inqube Global, 99X, Sysco LABS and Revocare Solutions.

The tournament commenced on May 13 and has already reached the quarter-final stage. Some of the games played earlier were severely hampered by wet weather that saw as many as 19 matches ending in no results.

However, the MCA tournament committee heeded to the requests made by the effected teams and replayed all 19 matches with the additional costs met by the MCA.

Some games had to be decided on the DLS method when rain interrupted.

“It is amazing what MCA has done for cricket in Sri Lanka and we thought it was fitting to support them with this tournament,” said Charaka Perera the director cum Chief Operations Officer at Stafford Motors.

Special awards will be presented to the best batsman, best bowler, man of the series and man of the final at the awards ceremony.

The semi-finals will be played on July 18 and the final on July 22 at the MCA ground.
