Moors SC Under-23 champs at Major Clubs tourney

Moors SC emerged champions of the Major Club under-23 two-day tournament by defeating Ragama CC on the first inning in the final that concluded at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Ragama CC posted 293 runs in their first innings and in reply, Moors scored a commanding 298 runs for 9 wickets in 62.5 overs at the close.

Electing to bat first, Ragama CC were off to a shaky start when they lost three wickets for just 41 runs. However, a 93 run partnership between Ranmith Jayasena and Dulaj Bandara saw Ragama CC revive their innings to 5 for 162.

Dulaj Bandara played the anchor roll by scoring a patient 73 runs off 150 deliveries including five boundaries while Ranmith Jayasena contributed 72 runs with six boundaries to give them a healthy total.

Theeshan Vithushan was the pick of the bowlers claiming 5-102.

In reply, skipper Mohammed Shamash led from the front with a cautious knock of 73 runs from 87 balls with three boundaries and three sixes while Sohan de Livera contributed a quick 72 runs off 57 balls including seven boundaries and two sixes to stabilize the innings.

Janishka Perera also chipped in with 72 runs in 128 deliveries with 6 boundaries to take Moors over the line.

Mohammed Shamash (73) and Janishka Perera (72) were involved in a match winning partnership of 136 runs for the fourth wicket.
