Throwbacks to theatre: a pictorial series of spectacular theatre productions

22 August, 2021

As the global pandemic takes its toll on the vibrant theatre culture of Sri Lanka, with little opportunity at present to give the art of theatre life on stage, the Sunday Observer brings to its readers a series of weekly pictorials of past theatre productions which can be appreciated for their ‘visual splendour’. Thus it is hoped these pictorials will contribute at least in some small way to keep alive the thirst for theatre among our readers and drive the ‘spirit of support’ for theatre artistes to return once more to the stage and enliven the country’s cultural life.

In this sixth instalment of the ‘Throwbacks to Theatre’ pictorial series, the Sunday Observer brings to sight, moments on stage from the spectacular production ‘Peter Pan’ which went on the boards of the Lionel Wendt in December of 2018. This work of spectacular theatre was designed, directed and choreographed by Kevin Cruze who is one of the founders of the prolific amateur theatre company ‘Cold Theatre 7’, which features on its official website photo albums of their previous productions. The musical direction of ‘Peter Pan’ was by Geethika Cooray. It was a production by St. Joseph’s College in collaboration with Cold Theatre 7, featuring students from St. Bridget’s Convent. The stage manager of this praiseworthy production was Wasaam Ismail.

The captivating photographs featured in this pictorial of ‘Peter Pan’ are credited to the talented theatre photographer Mr. Shehal Joseph.
