The Sri Lanka Badminton Association says that it is well on course to conduct its annual general meeting and election of office bearers on May 31 in keeping with Sports Ministry directives.
“Our attention is drawn to the news item in the Sunday Observer of the 25 April 2021, which states that we did not respond to your news item of 4 April pertaining to the SLB AGM.
The Gazette Notification Section 13 A – Part 01 dated 27.10 2016 clearly states that the AGM of National Sports Associations must be held preferably by May 31 of each year. By Gazette Notification No. 2173/13 dated 30.04.2020, only in respect of the year 2020, the due date is allowed as August 31. We have therefore no compulsory requirement to adhere to a March 31 deadline.
The Notice of AGM has been sent out to our affiliates along with the Annual Report and Audited Accounts. Kindly publish this response in your esteemed newspaper to help clarify that Sri Lanka Badminton intends to conduct its affairs well within the Sports Law as well as provide an environment which brings out the talent of our best players and enables us to improve our standing at the international level,” secretary of Sri Lanka Badminton Mohan Wijesinghe said in a statement.
