Ananda College Colombo won the Boys Championship while Mahamaya Girls School Kandy took the Girls overall Championship at the Junior National Short Course Swimming Championships which was held at the Hillwood College Swimming pool in Kandy recently. Ananda College swimmers collected a tally of 285 points to beat last years winners St.Joseph’s and this years favourites for the championship. Joes could muster only a total of 266 points and Trinity College with 180 points was placed third in the Boys category.
In the Girls overall Championship, host Mahamaya Girls School won the Cup which was in the custody of Visakha Vidyalaya gaining 259 points. Sirimavo Bandaranayaka MV (237 Points) and Lyceum International School (151) Wattala were placed second and third respectively. Last year’s Champs Visakha Vidyalaya could score only 82 points from all events which shows a decline of their Swimmers.Akalanka Pieris of Ananda College and Vinoli Kaluarachchi of Mahamaya Girls School were adjudged as the Best Boys and Best Girls Swimmers.
