The sub-committee of COPE has instructed the Secretary to the Ministry of Education to bring all vocational training institutes and resources of the Government together and draw up a common program to produce skilled workers to meet the high demand of employment nationally and internationally.
The committee has emphasised the need to formulate a general policy to produce quality skilled workers for certain foreign jobs with high salaries.
The Sub Committees on Tertiary Education of COPE had given these instructions when they met on Thursday, August 3. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the sub-committee, MP Madhura Withanage and representatives of many institutions including the Ministry of Education, Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority, Vocational Training Authority and the Ceylon German Technical Training Institute were present.
