The annual perahera of the historic Kadulumulla Pattini Rajamaha temple in the Kegalle District will be held on August 5 for the 441st time.
The Perahera organised under the guidance of Chief Sanghanayaka of Thunkorala, Vendala Sri Visuddharamadhipathi Most Ven. Hariyale Hariyavamsalankara Thera will parade to Karawanella Town and then will return to the Vandala Sri Visuddharama temple. The perahera will include a series of cultural pageants and many elephants.
Before conducting the Perahera, the cup planting ceremony took place on July 22. The Kumbal Perahera which commenced on July 29 will continue until tomorrow (July 31). The Udamalwa Randoli Perahera will be held on August 2 and the lower court perahera will be held on August 3 and 4.
On the day after the Perahera, the water-cutting ceremony and the peace festival for the nation and three armed forces will be held with the participation of a large number of people in the area centered on the temple and the Kelani River.
Kadulumulla Pattini Rajamaha temple built during the reign of King Sitawaka Rajasingha is near the town of Karawanella near the Kelani Ganga centered on the beautiful Kabulumulla village. Built by King Rajasingha I in 1582, there are many historical events and information during the existence of this historical temple, among which the annual grand procession of the temple is considered a special cultural festival.
