Journalist Prabhath Weeraratne passes away

Senior Journalist Prabhath Weeraratne passed away last morning (July 8) after a sudden illness. He was working as the Associate Editor of the Sathhanda newspaper at the time of his sudden demise.

Weeraratne, remembered for his warmth and friendship among fellow journalists, leaves behind his wife Nishamani Jayakody, a Director at the National Institute of Mental Health Health, Angoda and two young daughters.

A past pupil of Ananda College, Colombo he also worked as the media secretary of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya. He held many other positions in the past. He was a Deputy Editor of the Randiva newspaper, News Editor of Maubima, News Editor of Lakbima and a journalist at the Yukthiya newspaper.

His remains lie at No. 276/7, Jayanthi Mawatha, Himbutana, Mulleriyawa New Town. The funeral will be held tomorrow, July 10 at the Udumulla Public Cemetery, Mulleriyawa at 4.00 p.m. - MF
