Over 472,500 candidates to sit GCE (OL) exam

Nearly 472,500 candidates will sit the GCE (OL) examination - 2022 - (2023) from tomorrow till June 8 at 3,568 examination centres.

Around 35,000 examination staff would be deployed and special examination centres will be set up at the Welikada prison, School for the Blind at Ratmalana, Suneetha Vidyalaya at Watareka and the Apeksha Hospital at Maharagama, a spokesman for the Department of Examinations told the Sunday Observer yesterday.

Commissioner General of Examinations Amith Jayasundara in a circular to all school heads stated that school candidates who misbehave at examination centres and commit fraud would be punished and their candidature would be cancelled with immediate effect.

Last year, 234 candidates were not issued their results since they had committed frauds and misdeeds at the examination centres. The Examinations Department can ban candidates sitting public examinations for life if they commit frauds and malpractices, Kurunegala Senior Director of Education, W.M. Balasooriya told the Sunday Observer.

School heads and parents should make their children aware that they should adhere to the rules and regulations issued by the supervisors at the examination centres, he added.
