According to customs sources, following a formal customs investigation of Puttalam District MP A. S. Raheem who was detained by the customs for illegally bringing undeclared gold and smart phones through the Katunayake Airport special guest cabin facilities was fined and released. Accordingly, MP Ali Sabri Raheem was fined 7.5 million rupees and released.
The formal customs investigation on this was conducted by the Senior Deputy Director of Customs of the Customs Revenue Protection Division NPP Premaratne. He has ordered the confiscation of the stock of gold bars, jewellery and smart phones that had been illegally brought into Sri Lanka by the MP.
