Hayleys Group and CL Synergy meet in the final of the 30th Singer – MCA Super Premier League T20 tournament 2023, to be played today (21) at the MCA ground, commencing 10.00 am.
In the semi-finals played on Friday, (19) Hayleys beat Fairfirst Insurance by three wickets with two deliveries to spare, while CL Synergy beat CDB Finance in an unusual manner.
In the top half semi-final at MCA, Hayleys chasing a target of 149 runs was looking down the barrel at 68 for 7 in 12.4 overs.
Hayleys made a marvelous recovery through an unbeaten eighth wicket stand of 84 runs off 42 balls between Ashen Bandara (68 not out in 28 balls, inclusive of 5 sixes and 5 fours) and Kavishka Anjula (25 not out).
The bottom half semi-final at the Colts ground between CDB Finance and CL Synergy was abandoned due to the pitch pronounced as dangerous.
CDB batting first were 11 for 2 in 3.2 overs when the umpires stopped play as the pitch was declared dangerous.
According to the MCA tournament rules and playing conditions, in the event a semi-final ends in a no-result, the next option to declare the winner was to enforce the ‘bowl out’ contest.
The CL Synergy bowlers knocked down the wickets more times than the CDB bowlers to advance to the final.
