Five dead in Delft Island: police launch probe

Five people including three women, were stabbed to death yesterday morning. They had been living in the same house, and were said to be over the age of 70. Four of them were found dead in pools of blood in the house and one was found outside. The police suspect that four or five suspects were involved in the murders and have launched a full-scale investigation to apprehend the culprits. Minister Douglas Devananda and the Jaffna Magistrate visited the scene of the crime to assess the situation.

The Minister has instructed the Northern Province DIG to bring the suspects to justice without delay to allay the fears of the public.

He has also taken steps to suspend boat transport to and from the island to prevent the suspects from fleeing the area.

The lone survivor, a 100-year-old woman, was admitted to the Jaffna General Hospital with severe cut injuries. The incident has sent shockwaves through the island, and the police are working to track down the suspects and ensure that justice is served.
