Potters in the traditional pottery village of Tiththawella in the Ganewatta Divisional Secretariat Division, face financial difficulties as their sales have gone down drastically.
Secretary of the Potters’ Welfare Association K.H. Piyasena said that during the past few months they increased their products by 50 percent expecting sales to increase during the New Year season.
“But unfortunately, there were not many customers as we expected. Hence, we are not in a position to even earn our daily living. We also have to pay high charges to transport clay and firewood for our industry. We are running our business at a loss.
“We call upon the Minister in charge of cottage industries to look into our plight and purchase our products through state establishments such as Laksala,” Piyasena said.
