The three-member committee appointed by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to look into the violent incidents of May 9 last year, including arson and destruction of houses and property, presented its report to the Court of Appeal on Friday.
The committee comprising Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda (Chairman), Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Gunatilleke and General (Retd) Daya Ratnayake also presented a copy of the report to President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Thirty-nine petitioners had filed the case in the Court of Appeal. The Court had issued notices to the respondents. Since the report was handed over to the Court of Appeal as a part of the case, it becomes a public document, the sources said.
The public will be able to get a clearer picture of what happened on May 9 through this document, they said.
