An all-night Pirith chanting ceremony was held on Wednesday and alms-giving for bhikkhus was conducted on Thursday at the Lake House premises to mark the 137th Birth Anniversary of Lake House founder D. R. Wijewardene. Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena, Lake House Chairman and Mass Media Ministry Secretary Anusha Palpita and members of the Director Board, Wijeya Newspapers Chairman Ranjith Wijeyawardene and Lake House staff and family members took part.
Dr. Chameera Yapa Abeywardane assumed duties as the 26th Chairman of National Lotteries Board (NLB) on Wednesday. Former NLB Chairman Ronald Perera, PC also attended the religious ceremony that was held on Wednesday along with senior board members, Japanese Deputy Head of Mission, Katsuki Kotaro, his family members and other well wishers also participated. Founded in 1955 National Lotteries Board fully operated by the Ministry of Finance and earns around Rs. 17.5 billion annually becoming one of main revenue sources of the Government.
