Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that the QR code system used to dispense fuel by fuel stations will be abolished within the next three months.
Three new companies to import, distribute and sell fuel are set to start operations in the country in the next three months. With the start of operations of these companies, the QR code system that has been in operation for some time will no longer be necessary.
Accordingly, the customer will be given the opportunity to get the required amount of fuel based on the customer’s need. Along with the three new companies, five companies including the government owned Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) will handle import, distribution and marketing of fuel in the country separately.
