Sirimavo Bandaranaike Girls School celebrates Golden Jubilee

Sirimavo Bandaranaike Girls School, Colombo celebrated its Golden Jubilee on January 1, 2023.

Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya began as “Stanmore Crescent Primary School” on January 1, 1973 with five teachers and 183 students under the leadership of Wimala Liyanage, the founder principal.

The five teachers were Anula Gunaratne, Sumithra Malagala, Chandra Samarasinghe, M.D.P. Peiris, and Hema Dombagoda. Symbolising the children who were similar to flowers, the classes were named Nelum, Saman, Manel, Namal, and Kumudu.

The current principal is Malini Herath and currently around 3,500 female students are studying there.
