Trinity College’s weightlifting team led by Abidh Jameel emerged as Champions in the All-Island School Games 2022 organised by the Ministry of Education at Royal College Polonnaruwa last month.
With this win Trinity bagged the fourth Championship for the year and was recently crowned All-island Champions. Trinity was able to collect 26 points followed by Walagamba Maha Vidyalaya (14 points), Jaffna Hindu College (13 points) and Royal College (8 points).
Trinity won the Under-17 All Island Championship, Under-20 All Island Championship and ended as the overall champions.
The weightlifters who won medals are Under 17 first place 49kg – Thisal Rajapakse and 73kg – Yasan Kavsidu, second place 96kg – Sadil Angammana, Under 20 first place 109kg+ – Missaka Wickramasekara, second place 73kg – Abidh Jameel and 89kg – Chamod Dehigama, third place 81kg – Dhuwarakesh Vijaykumar and 96kg – Sherwain Wavita.
A big hand should go to coach Manju Wijerathne and the Master-in-Charge Kanchana Galagoda for their continuous dedication and commitment to the sport.
