Grama Niladhari Division to get Jana Sabha

Co-Cabinet Spokesperson Mass Media Minister Dr.Bandula Gunawardena said that the Cabinet paper directed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to establish a National Assembly Secretariat to establish the Jana Sabha system has been approved by the Cabinet.

He was speaking to heads of Government media at the Mass Media Ministry earlier this week. He said that former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and senior journalist Victor Ivan presented this proposal to the Cabinet led by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Called the ‘Discourse on reform’, a proposal has been presented regarding the re-establishment of the Jana Sabha system. In this proposal, it is stated that the Sri Lankan society, which is divided due to race, religion, caste and political parties, should be established in every Grama Niladhari Division, a for a common gathering without any differences and should intervene to solve the problems of the village without recommendation. The Minister said that this is a special turning point in the current politics, and for the strengthening of cooperative democracy, efforts should be made to establish it systematically up to state sponsorship. The Minister said that there is chaos in the current politics and democratic voting system and said that we should gradually resolve this chaos and move towards participatory development. The Minister also said out that political leaders including the president believe that a new journey can be started by thinking in a different way than before.
