Sri Lanka’s women cricketers made mince meat out of their hapless counterparts in Malaysia who did not stand a dog’s chance in their Asia Cup match at Sylhet, India yesterday.

Very little is known about Malaysia’s men’s cricketers while their women are merely just making up the numbers in the tournament

The Sri Lankans made 105 for 7 and then obliterated the Malaysian women for a 33 runs in under 10 overs in what became a terribly one-sided contest.

Right arm off-spinner Malsha Shehani had the match of her life as she plucked four Malaysian scalps giving away just two runs in just 1.5 overs.

In her first over she took one wicket and in her next over went on the offensive to grab three more wickets while missing out on a hat-trick.

Malaysia in the process lost their last six wickets for just two runs.

Her feat was too much for the Malaysian women who had no breathing space and caved in like nine pins.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat first the Sri Lankan women had no reason to do anything extraordinary against the underdog Malaysia taking things lightly to make 105 runs with skipper Chamari Atapattu and Nilakshi de Silva scoring 21 runs each after which Oshadi Ranasinghe made an unbeaten 23 as she went after the bowlers with gay abandon proving the Malaysian bowlers were like chicken feed.

Malaysia women could reply with only 33 runs off 9.5 overs with Elsa Hunter the only batter to reach doubles figures making 18 runs off 15 deliveries.

The experienced Inoka Ranaweera and Sugandika Kumara chipped in with two wickets to compliment Shehani.

Scores:

Sri Lanka 105/7 in 20 overs (Chamari Atapattu 21, Nilakshi de Silva 21, Malsha Shehani 14, Oshadi Ranasinghe 23 n.o. Sasha Azmi 2/10, Ainna Hashim 2/23)

Malaysia 33 in 9.5 overs (Elsa Hunter 18, Sugandika Kumari 2/11, Inoka Ranaweera 2/8, Malsha Shehani 4/2)
