Sri Lanka lose opener to India at Asia Cup

India overcame Sri Lanka easily by 41 runs in their first match of the Women’s Asia Cup cricket tournament played at Sylhet, India yesterday.

India batted first and scored 150 runs for six wickets in their 20 overs with Jemimahy Rodrigues scoring 76 runs off only 53 deliveries that included eleven fours and a six while Harmenpriet Kaur their captain contributed 33 off 30 deliveries and hit two fours and a six as the pair also put on a valuable 92 runs partnership for the third wicket in 11.5 overs.

Spinner Oshadi Ranasinghe bowled best to pick three wickets for 32 runs. Sri Lanka just could not get going with skipper Chamari Atapattu being dismissed for five runs. However, opener Harshitha Samarawickrama batted best to score 26 runs off 20 deliveries with five fours.

Hasini Perera was the other batter to score making 33 with a six and two fours.
