Over 27,930 Sri Lankans seek foreign jobs in June

Nearly 27,937 Sri Lankans had gone abroad for jobs in June this year. Of them, 18,083 had gone on their own and 9,854 through registered foreign job agencies.

Around 156,179 Sri Lankans had left for overseas jobs from January to the first week of July this year.

Over 39,216 had gone to Kuwait for jobs, Manager, Kurunegala Regional Office, Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, R.M. Senarathna told the Sunday Observer yesterday.

About 36,229 Sri Lankans had left to take up jobs in Qatar and around 26,098 had left for Saudi Arabia for jobs there. Nearly 3,219 people had gone to South Korea and 2,576 for jobs in Japan.

He said that 46,992 Sri Lankans had gone for jobs in the professional category and 38,871 people had gone abroad for jobs in the domestic –related sector.
