Public servants to be provided private sector option

3 July, 2022

The Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government is exploring the possibility of granting public servants the option of working for the private sector for five years under no-pay leave basis. Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration M.M.P.K.Mayadunne has appointed a special committee to look into this matter and to prepare a report within the next two weeks.

Secretary to the Education Ministry M.N.Ranasinghe is officiating as the head of that fact- finding committee. Secretary to the Environment Ministry Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary to the Justice Ministry Wasantha Perera and Secretary to the Health Ministry S.S.Chandraguptha are functioning as the other members of the committee.

Public Administration Ministry Secretary Mayadunne told the media when this report is finalised, it would be handed over to Minister Dinesh Gunawardena within two weeks for him to consider the relevant measures to be taken regarding the matter. Subsequently, it would be forwarded to the Cabinet of Ministers for consideration.

This proposed program would not affect the seniority or the pension rights of the public servants under any circumstances, Mayadunne said.
