Holiday leave of all police officers have been cancelled until further notice due to the prevailing emergency situation in the country, Police Headquarters announced yesterday.
According to Police spokesperson, DIG Priyantha Jayakody, over 5,000 police officers have been deployed to assist in the on-going rescue operations.
Meanwhile, a Police emergency operations centre has been set up at Police Headquarters on the instructions of Inspector General of Police, Pujith Jayasundara.
The functions of the centre will be overseen by a Superintendent of Police, the Police said, adding, that reports of all emergency situations around the island can be reported to it.
