Dr. Victor Hettigoda, the chairman of “Siddhalepa Group” has passed away at the age of 84, family sources said.
Dr. Hettigoda was conferred “Deshabandu – Class I” in 1990 by then-President Ranasinghe Premadasa, in recognition of his contribution to Ayurveda and the industry. He is an ayurveda kidney specialist and a famous astrologer.
He has received many national and international awards including a listing among the 50 greatest Sri Lankan Entrepreneurs after independence.
Dr.Hettigoda elevated native medicine and herbal products which were earlier confined to Sinhala medicine stores, into a popular niche industry. Siddhalepa group became a thriving business in ayurveda cosmetics, dental and health products under his vision.
