Six coaches for weightlifting

Ten men and nine women weight lifters along with six coaches will represent Sri Lanka at the Weightlifting International Championship that is scheduled to be held from February 25 to 27 in Singapore.

They have been selected subject to Sports Ministry approval.

An official said the meet is certain to offer valuable exposure to the weightlifters in preparation for the two major events like the Asian and Commonwealth Games that are to be held this year.

Indika Dissanayake from the Navy who won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, Australia in 2018 has been named in the tour party.

At a meet held recently in Uzbekistan, Sri Lankan men won bronze medals through Chinthana Vidhanage, Thilanka Palangasinghe and Manoj Wijesinghe finishing third.

Out of the women, Srimali Samarakoon (gold, 45 kg), Thimali Haputenna (silver +87kg) and Nadishani Rajapakse (bronze, 61kg) were the other medal winners for Sri Lanka.

Women’s team: (subject to approval): Srimali Samarakoon (49kg), Hansani Gomes (49kg), Chamari Warnakulasuriya (55kg), Nadishani Rajapakse (59kg), V Arshika (64kg), GGDT Gurugama (72kg),WPDN Sanjana (76kg), Chathurika Priyanthi (87kg), Thimali Haputhenna (+87kg).
