
Two women killed as man goes berserk
HUNGAMA: A man with a mental condition is alleged to have stabbed to death his wife and a female relative in a bizarre double murder reported from Hungama, police said.
The victims who were not named were 37 and 67 years of age.
The motive for the killing was not known and the suspect was taken into custody along with the murder weapon.
Selfie leads to death
KARAMETIYA: A 19-year-old youth plunged 100 feet to his death while attempting to take a selfie on the edge of a precipice in Medagama on Wednesday.
The victim along with two others was on a trip to the Morogalla Mountain in Karametiya, Medagama when the incident took place, according to police.
The other two youths are currently being treated for shock at a local hospital.
The victim was an Advanced Level student and a resident of Karametiya.
Five apparel hands on the mat for theft
KATUNAYAKE: Five garment factory hands were arrested after they are alleged to have stolen garments worth Rs. 1.5 million.
The alleged theft is believed to have been carried out from time to time and the suspects were rounded following a lengthy probe by police.
The suspects are alleged to have stolen 1,079 garments that were later sold to unsuspecting shop owners.
Police were later recovered 162 garments from several shops following information provided by the suspects.
Covid-19 coupledumped on road
WELLAMPITIYA: An elderly couple that had been dumped on the road at a location in Wellampitiya have tested positive for Covid-19.
The pair was found by nearby residents who had later fed and washed the couple before health officials were called in.
The couple tested positive for Covid-19 after they were admitted to the IDH hospital.
The police are hunting for those who had dumped the couple on the road.
