Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that LTTE terrorism was a severe catastrophe faced by the country after independence.
Therefore, defeating LTTE terrorism was the most memorable victory achieved by the entire nation.Issuing a message to mark the 12th National War Heroes Commemoration, Minister Rambukwella said the day which put an end to the country’s 33 years of a dark era was the day of victory for the entire nation.
The Minister said if so, many foreign countries said that Vellupillai Prabhakaran’s brutal terrorism cannot be defeated, but we successfully accomplished that task due to the straightforward leadership and great sacrifice of our war heroes.
He said the war heroes who safeguarded the motherland with firm dedication and even sacrificed their lives are the true heroes of the nation and they will never be forgotten.
Minister Rambukwella said if no room is provided for terrorism to raise its ugly head again; that is the only way we can bring honour and great respect to the most challenging and difficult task fulfilled by the war heroes.
However, it is regretted that such opportunities were created for those who promoted terrorism and separatist sentiments during the tenure of the former Yahapalana Government.
The Minister said the incumbent President, Prime Minister and the Government have given their utmost priority for national security.
When we celebrate the 12 years of defeating the terrorism, it can be described as a significant achievement of the country and its people.
