
A hand book for professional journalists that is of great importance for them has been distributed among professional journalists in the island. This hand book has been edited by Dharmasiri Lankapeli a veteran journalist and reputed trade unionist.
Lankapeli says in this book that this book was designed to make the professional journalists aware of their specific rights as journalists committed to safeguarding the rights of the people and to prepare and motivate them to play a catalytic role in the media industry that is ready for a new era of public service journalism which goes beyond the traditional mode of trade unions.
The book deals with aspects of print media, radio broadcasting and television. It also deals with the media industry in Sri Lanka the concept of the public service media related issues of modern Sri Lankan journalists and legal protection received by enrolling in trade unions and the necessity for a strong organisational structure and plan for journalists.
