Security dragnet along Northern coastline

The Defence Ministry has thrown a security dragnet to prevent organised criminals escaping to foreign countries and also illegal entry to the country by criminal elements and seizing contraband.

The Tri-Forces, STF and police will be deployed enlisting the support of the Northern Fisherman’s Security Committees. Military Spokesman Brig. Chandana Wickremesinghe said steps have been taken to ensure National Security by the Tri-Forces. Navy Spokesman Capt. Indika Silva said patrolling along the Mannar coastal belt has been intensified to check illegal entry to the country. The Air Force too has increased its areal service. - TW
